Right at the heart of Gloucester County is Mantua Township, a cozy community of almost 15,000 residents. Like its neighbor, East Greenwich, Mantua’s origins stem from New Jersey Legislature, when a signed act took parts of Greenwich Township.
Where Mantua got its name, people are not quite sure. Some say the township was named after a town in Italy, while others say it’s inspired by a subgroup of the Lenape Native Americans. The most accepted story, however, is that Mantua got its name from Mantua Creek.
Mantua is located conveniently close to Philadelphia and other major centers in the area, which is why many consider the township as the ideal, family-friendly suburb to live in.
